"Embedded", by Steph Giera, is a multi-faceted exhibit featuring thought-provoking artwork in a variety of mediums such as photography, video art, installations, assemblages, and interactive art now on view at Shapot Art Gallery.
This event will feature a screening of Giera’s short film performance Rites & Ritual, followed by an interview-style artist talk moderated by Dr. Leslie Hammond ASA, founder and owner of Artistic Eye Fine Art Services. The conversation will explore Giera’s work, artistic process, and themes of performance art, alongside insights from videographer Tim Russell and fellow performer Veronica Durbin. The discussion will conclude with an audience Q&A session.
"Embedded" Show Statement:
“Embedded” explores the profound emotional weight of the seemingly-simple everyday object, the bed. Inspired by the thesis for her Art History degree, Giera further delves into the subject with a concentration on its historical and autobiographical significance, while also challenging many essentialist theories. The bed is the location where most of us are born and where most of us will die. Where we sleep and wake. Where we cuddle and have sex. A place we go when we’re sick to become healthy. Where we experience every emotion from trauma to pure joy. “Embedded” invites the viewer to engage with the extraordinary within the ordinary, and to rediscover the world anew.
